P-Shot or Viagra, Which is Better for Erectile Dysfunction?

The P-Shot is a sexual rejuvenation treatment for men that uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to treat erectile dysfunction and Peyrone’s disease. An estimated 30 million men in the United States suffer from erectile dysfunction. (1) It can occur for a number of reasons, and can have serious effects on the intimate relationships and mental health of the patient. Common treatments for erectile dysfunction are oral medications, such as Viagra or Cialis.

Viagra and other ED medications have been utilized by millions of men worldwide for a number of years, with very few alternative therapies available until now. Oral medications for ED work by relaxing smooth muscles and increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual stimulation. But they can cause unwanted side effects, including headaches, back pain, and in rare cases, even an increased risk of heart attack. (2) Therefore, more men are choosing to go with natural, drug-free solutions to erectile dysfunction like the P-Shot.

Problems with Pills?

ED is often a serious physical and emotional concern for a patient and their partner. It can cause frustration and embarrassment which can negatively affect intimate relationships and have a knock-on effect on general mental health. Around half of men over 50 experience problems with ED and impotence. And, although ED is commonly associated with age and ill health, 1 in 4 men with newly diagnosed erectile dysfunction are under the age of 40. (3)

Many men consider ED medication to be a go-to treatment, but is it really the only option out there? And what happens to patients when it doesn’t work as effectively as they had anticipated?

Viagra is the original, most name-recognized ED medication on the market. Created in the late 1980s, and FDA-approved a decade later, the blue, diamond-shaped pills were heralded as a revolution in men’s sexual health. After this breakthrough, many more ED medications followed suit. Each medication is available as a generic or brand-name drug. They include the following.

  • Sildenafil (Viagra)
  • Tadalafil (Cialis)
  • Vardenafil (Levitra)
  • Avanafil (Stendra)

As with most medications, there are side effects. These include:

  • Headaches
  • Back pain
  • Low Blood Pressure (Hypotension)
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Chest Pain
  • Increased cardiac risk

ED medications fall into a category known as PDE5 inhibitors. They are prescription-only vasodilators; medications that dilate blood vessels. As they are so widely used, it would be natural to assume that most patients know the side effects and possible complications of taking ED medication. However, it is common for many men to overlook these issues. With a P-Shot, there’s no need to take any medications and, apart from brief discomfort from the injection itself, the risk of negative side effects is imperceptible!

ED and Underlying Conditions

Conditions associated with ED can be challenging for some patients because they limit the effectiveness of ED medications like Viagra. In particular, diabetic and post-prostatectomy ED patients may find ED medications to be ineffective. (4) In these cases, the P-Shot may be an alternative treatment. Additionally, the P-Shot may help men with Peyronie’s disease. This is a scarring condition that causes the penis to curve, which does not appear to show improvement with ED medications. Preliminary studies in patients with Peyronie’s disease indicate that PRP treatment may be of therapeutic value. (5)

What is PRP?

The P-Shot, named after the Priapus, the Greek god of fertility, is a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment to improve male sexual function. It’s a form of regenerative medicine that uses PRP at high concentrations and is derived from your own blood. And amazingly, the attributes that make the P-Shot so effective come from the patient’s own body! So how does it work?

Our blood is composed of a combination of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets are the body’s smallest blood cells. They are a rich source of growth factors; naturally-occurring substances that promote cell division and promote wound healing. (6) High concentrations of platelets contain enough growth factors to support the treatment of common conditions such as hair loss, torn muscles and tendons, and sexual rejuvenation in men and women.

P-Shot Benefits

The P-Shot procedure is fast, safe, and convenient. PRP is used in many areas of medicine to improve blood flow, aid wound healing, and promote the re-growth of new tissues. Many patients choose the P-Shot because it is an effective natural alternative to medication. And, when the power of PRP is harnessed in the P-Shot, it is effective in enhancing sexual function, it can also have a marked psychological effect. In addition to physical benefits, an improvement in sexual function can help men regain confidence in their sexual prowess, improve intimate relationships, and strengthen their overall sexual well-being. Some patients even notice a ½-inch increase in girth and length. This anecdotal evidence is corroborated by statistically significant results in research subjects. (6)
